Shafiquer Rahman

Director & Chief Technical Adviser

Shafique Rahman is a development economist with 38 years of experience in 30 developing countries including 11 years in Myanmar.

Shafique has done extensive work on (i) economic management, inclusive growth and poverty reduction strategy (ii) national, sub-national and local development planning and investment programming; (iii) formulation of sector-wide programmes and projects; (iv) formulation of aid strategies and country programme of development partners; (v) aid coordination and management; (vi) rural livelihoods, entrepreneurship and micro, small and medium enterprise development; (vii) banking and finance; and (viii) programme/project evaluation and outcome/impact assessment.

Shafique has authored more than 90 technical reports and papers. He has worked extensively with both high-level decision makers as well as middle level officers of government agencies., donor agencies, NGOs and CSOs, financial institutions and private sector.

Shafique is the chief architect of the ACE model and together with U Kyaw Naing, Shafique has developed mechanisms for linking MSEs to mainstream financial institutions in Myanmar.

Shafique holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and Cambridge Secondary School certificate from Sevenoaks School, Kent, UK.
